Did you know that a buildup of bacteria is the leading cause of gum (periodontal) disease? At Palms Dental Care, we are committed to treating your oral health for many years to come. Gum disease is a serious condition and should be treated as soon as possible.

What is Periodontal Treatment?

Periodontal treatment involves diagnosing and treating gum disease and gum inflammation. Gum disease is caused by plaque—a white, sticky substance that develops from an accumulation of bacteria.

If plaque is left untreated, it hardens on the enamel creating tartar. As plaque and tartar develops on teeth and around the gum line, you may experience the early stages of gum disease.

Treatment

You will be treated for gum disease with deep cleanings. Antibiotics are also used to decrease the number of bacteria in the mouth. Anesthesia may be provided on the left and right sides of the mouth, in order to alleviate discomfort throughout your treatment.

During treatment, our hygienists specialize in providing you with optimal treatment even in hard to reach places. If the progression of gum disease is more prevalent, you may require a deep cleaning as well as a follow-up.
