Will my root canal hurt?
At Palms Dental Care, we believe that even the most sensitive dental treatments can be comfortable. Root canals, in particular, have a reputation for being painful. That’s just not true, however. Most root canal situations are quite painful when you begin to have symptoms, but the actual process of root canal therapy relieves rather than causes pain.
Our dentists are extremely gentle and conscientious about patient comfort. No matter what type of procedure you have planned, we start by completely numbing your tooth. Today, we use high-quality anesthetic and have better knowledge about how it affects patients differently. We won’t begin until we are sure you won’t feel pain. Having a root canal feels similar to having a filling. You might feel some vibrations, but it should be painless.
Some signs that you might need a root canal include pain and sensitivity to hot and cold. Pain may increase when you lie down and may even feel like it is throbbing. Swelling is common and can worsen the longer you go without treatment.
After your root canal, you may have some residual sensitivity as you heal, but over-the-counter pain medication can help you eliminate that.
If you have a toothache and live in the Lake Worth area, give us a call. We can determine if a root canal will save your tooth and restore the comfort of your smile.
