What is a dental implant?
An implant is a small piece of titanium that is very specifically designed to replace the root of the tooth. It generally resembles the shape of a single natural tooth root. There are many different companies that make dental implants, but a handful make up most of the manufacturing. Although there are many different designs, most of the modern implants are all very good designs. For a single tooth replacement, a piece called an abutment is connected to the implant (artificial root), and then a crown is made to fit on top of this. Several implants can also be placed and used to hold in a full set of teeth or dentures.
