Extractions are usually only performed when necessary but are required to prevent any further decay or bone loss. The majority of extractions are performed to get rid of wisdom teeth that are pushing other molars or have become impacted and damaged the other teeth. We will take great care not to harm the surrounding areas and promote healthy healing of the socket and gums.  The socket left over from the extraction is usually filled in and healed within a few weeks. There are many options to replace a tooth after an extraction, such as implants, bridges, partial dentures, and more.Keeping the area clean and free from debris after the extraction is critical to the healing process.

After an extraction, always:

  • Rinse carefully with saltwater
  • Eat soft foods
  • Brush carefully
  • Use medication as prescribed
  • Remember that swelling is normal

Extractions can make some people nervous about going to the dentist, but we also offer sedation options to make you comfortable. If you have any questions about our extraction process or the healing period afterward, give our office a call, and we will be glad to help.
